Custom Shades and Design is a premium tensile structure manufacturer. We specialize in the finest tensile umbrellas, shade sails and barrel vault structures. Our company debuted in manufacturing high-quality umbrellas specifically for the restaurant industry, then moving to shade sails for children’s play areas.
Our tensile structures are often referred to as tents, stretch tents or awnings – however, tensile structures are much more complex. Unlike the aforementioned temporary examples, our tensile structures are precision-engineered permanent structures. We specialize in engineered membranes made from materials like PVC, PVDF and HDPE shade cloth. These structures are designed to last, with many of our designs remaining in good condition for more than 10 years and in some applications up to 25 years.

BARREL VAULTS
CUSTOM DESIGNED WITH BRANDING POTENTIAL
Barrel Vaults are almost always custom designed because they need to serve a particular purpose. Referred to as awnings, the reality is that barrel vaults are an effective solution to water problems which may cause issues in other tensile structure shapes. The frames can be made to take fascias for branding opportunity or without. These structures can also be built to have roll-up blinds fitted to them as well as lights and heaters. The frames are made of steel that is painted or hot-dipped galvanized or a combination of the two. The fabric used on these structures are Ferrari or Verseidag PVC or PVDF.
UMBRELLAS
PERMANENT CUSTOM STRUCTURES
The umbrella range consists of Standard Umbrellas, Fixed Edge, Single Cantilever, Dual Cantilever, Octagonal and Custom Designed structures. Traditionally used in the restaurant industry for outside seating, referred to as parasols. The umbrellas are permanent structures and are engineered for different wind speeds. There are different designs to suit your needs and can be custom designed to fit any area. The umbrella frames are made of steel and are painted or hot-dipped galvanized, powder coating is also available. The fabric used is Ferrari 502s white or 502 colour design. Branding is also available as an optional extra. Installation of the umbrellas needs a sufficient concrete foundation and trained installers.
SHADE SAILS
TAILORED TO YOUR NEEDS IN A RANGE OF COLOURS
Shade Sails are high tensioned structures shaped to the exact area needed to be covered. The Shade Sails are custom designed by using specialized software. Referred to as stretch tents, their true name is hypar but more commonly known as shade sails. The sails are manufactured and installed by our trained installers. The supporting columns are steel that has been hot-dipped galvanized, the fabric is HDPE plastic shade cloth and comes in a range of colours. The fabric is also supported by stainless steel edge cable and is tensioned by using turnbuckles.

PRODUCTION PROCESS
At Custom Shades & Design, we hold ourselves to the highest standard and believe in full transparency within our team and with our customers. For that reason, our production process includes many rigorous practices and procedures to ensure the end result is the best it can possibly be.
We provide full design, engineering, manufacturing and installation. Our manufacturing facility is fully equipped to; carry out biaxial testing on membranes, steel fabrications including painting, perform high-frequency welding, supplying and construction of steel cables.

INSTALLATION
In house installers are available and when it comes to complex installations custom shades has partnered with rope access riggers to assist with the complex installations.
FABRIC
Custom shades boasts with a full fabric manufacturing facility with tools such as a full cnc cutting table , 4 high frequency welding machines and a specialized fabric grinder
STEEL
Custom shades has a full steel in-house manufacturing workshop , we also specialize in spray painting our structures in our industrial size spray-booth.
RIGGING
Tensile structures use stainless steel connections and rigging fittings , we offer swaging capabilities from 4mm to 16mm cables.
